How We Work Together

Therapy at The Therapy Shed is about helping you find a sense of internal freedom. We work collaboratively to explore the patterns of your past so you can create a more authentic, connected present.

A Secure Base for Self-Discovery

Choosing to start therapy is a brave and significant step. I believe the most vital part of this process isn’t a specific theory or a clinical technique: it is the genuine, human relationship we build together.

My style is collaborative and compassionate. I don’t see myself as an “expert” who is there to analyse you: instead, I work alongside you to help you make sense of your internal world. In the quiet sanctuary of my garden room in Flitch Green, Dunmow, you have a sturdy, non-judgemental space where you are free to speak your mind and be truly heard.

Understanding Attachment

We look at how your earliest relationships influence your current world, helping you build more secure and trusting connections with yourself and others.

Root-Cause Focus

Rather than just managing symptoms, we explore the underlying stories and experiences that keep you feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Relational Repair

Specialist support for pairs – including partners, siblings, or adult family members – looking to improve communication and rediscover their bond.

Lasting Resilience

By fostering a deeper understanding of your “inner critic,” we create sustainable, internal change that stays with you long after therapy ends.

How Will Therapy Help?

I am a firm believer in being “real” in the therapy room. I am not a blank, silent face staring at you: I am active, engaged, and down-to-earth. While we will often sit with and process difficult thoughts and emotions, there is also space for moments of lightness, shared humour, and greater self-recognition.

Ultimately, our work is about helping you find a sense of freedom: freedom from old habits, freedom from self-criticism, or simply the freedom to be more fully yourself. Whether we meet in person or online via zoom, we work at a pace that feels safe and right for you.

Using psychodynamic principles, we look beneath the surface. By understanding why you react in certain ways to today’s challenges, you gain the power and the freedom to choose different, healthier paths forward.

Heavily informed by the work of Gabor Maté, we approach your experiences with curiosity rather than judgement. We look at the “safety” patterns your mind created in the past and how they may no longer be serving you.

I am IFS-informed, which means we work to understand the different “parts” of your personality – even those that feel self-critical, angry, or “stuck” – and move toward a more balanced, peaceful, and self-led life.

Sessions for couples are priced at £75 per appointment.
